I should preface this by saying that I loved A Constellation of Vital Phenomena, so I was fully prepared for the beauty and desolation this title promised. This is a collection of short stories that Marra has woven together with the lives of its characters connected in sometimes subtle and unexpected ways. Once again Marra offers a glimpse into lives I cannot even wholly comprehend — survivors of war, prison, torture and oppressive regimes. But the real surprise of this book is that it completely delivers on the publisher’s claim – it is at once heartbreaking and life-affirming. Seriously. Why are you still reading this? Get your own copy, then get back to me and tell me how much you loved it. Personally, I listened to the audiobook first, and then read the rest on my kindle when the library loan expired and I couldn’t wait for the renewal. Either way, you can’t lose.
